A region with several UNESCO recognitions

Tarragona Cruise Port has set itself up in the world of cruises as a Mediterranean destination. The region of Catalonia known as the Costa Daurada, and its capital, Tarragona, located about 100 km south of Barcelona, will undoubtedly prove to be one of the cruise destinations to watch closely in coming years.

Tarragona is an excellent destination to add to any Mediterranean cruise itinerary. Open to the sea, it boasts 14 kilometres of coastline and a world-renowned mild climate, with an average annual temperature of 17 °C and 2,700 hours of sunshine per year. Thanks to the spectacular archaeological heritage of its Roman era, Tarragona has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO three times. This, together with its fascinating medieval heritage, makes visiting Tarragona the best way to enjoy a fascinating voyage through time.

The evolution of the project

In 2012, the Tarragona Port Authority established itself as one of its strategic objectives, becoming a regular destination for cruise ships. To this extent, efforts have focused on promoting the port and the destination and on obtaining the support of all the territorial administrations during these years. A work team led by the Port of Tarragona was formed with the participation of various institutions such as the Tarragona, Reus, Vila-Seca and Costa Daurada Tourist Boards, the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce, the Rovira i Virgili University, Reus Airport, the Catalan Tourism Agency and PortAventura World.

To this end, the Tarragona Cruise Port brand was created to promote the territory and position itself as a solid alternative in the Mediterranean for tourist cruises.
