Port Tarragona, True to Its Appointment with Seatrade Cruise Global, Makes Progress in Programming for Upcoming Seasons
The Tarragona delegation, headed by the President of the Port Authority of Tarragona (APT), Santiago J. Castellà, held a total of thirteen meetings with different cruise lines as well as meetings with tour operators.
Port Tarragona gave a very positive assessment of its participation in Seatrade Cruise Global, held in Miami from April 7 to 10. The Tarragona delegation, led by the President of the Port Authority of Tarragona, Santiago J. Castellà, held a total of thirteen meetings with major cruise lines in the sector as well as several encounters with tour operators. All of them highlighted the richness of the destination as well as the qualitative leap achieved by Port Tarragona thanks to the new terminal. Seatrade allowed Tarragona to consolidate its strong positioning as a leading cruise destination in the Western Mediterranean and, at the same time, make significant progress regarding future seasons.
Seatrade Cruise Global is the world’s leading business-to-business event for the cruise industry. Once again, Port Tarragona participated within the stand organized by Puertos del Estado. Over the four days of the fair, representatives of Port Tarragona held a total of thirteen business meetings with different cruise lines. Specifically, discussions were held with Marella, Disney, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, Holland America, Seabourn, Viking, Star Clipper, Carnival Maritime, Aroya Cruises, Virgin, Azamara, and Four Seasons. In addition, meetings were also held with tour operators, who were able to discover the main tourist attractions of the Costa Daurada.
The conversations and meetings held at Seatrade allowed relevant progress to be made in the programming for upcoming seasons, which will further strengthen Tarragona’s role as one of the most prominent cruise destinations in the Western Mediterranean. “It has been a very productive fair and we return from Miami satisfied both with the results achieved and with the strong positioning that Tarragona and the Costa Daurada have within the sector,” said the President of Port Tarragona, Santiago J. Castellà.
As part of the fair, the Board of Directors of MedCruise, the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports, of which Port Tarragona is a member, was held. President Castellà attended the meeting, where a review was made of the main figures achieved by Mediterranean ports, as well as the key trends identified in the sector, including the cruise lines’ commitment to alternative fuels and the relevance of the Mediterranean as the leading cruise region.
It is worth noting that the presence in Miami complements the commercial action carried out in previous events such as the European Cruise Week, held in Rotterdam last March, or Seatrade Europe, held in Hamburg last September.
2025 Season Underway
The celebration of Seatrade Cruise Global coincides with the start of the 2025 cruise season in Tarragona. This year, a total of 65 calls are scheduled at Port Tarragona. This represents two more arrivals compared to last year, meaning that the record achieved in 2024 in terms of ship arrivals is expected to be broken. In total, 32 different ships will dock at the Balears Wharf this season, 16 of them for the first time. As for passenger forecasts, it is estimated that around 120,000 cruise passengers will pass through the Balears Wharf and the Tarragona Cruise Port terminal, a figure in line with recent years.
