Tarragona Cruise Port Organizes a ‘Fam Trip’ with Travel Agencies to Promote the Costa Daurada and the Cruise Offering
Travel agents had the opportunity to visit the cruise terminal and learn about the services MSC offers from Tarragona, as well as visit Tarragona, Reus, Vila-seca, La Pineda, and PortAventura.
This initiative is part of the strategy to boost cruise tourism and explore new market niches on the Costa Daurada.
Tarragona Cruise Port organized a fam trip with Spanish travel agencies to showcase the Costa Daurada destination and its cruise offering. The trip took place between October 17 and 19 and included agents from Madrid, Vitoria, and León. Over the three days, the agents participated in various visits that allowed them to discover the attractions and experiences the Costa Daurada offers as a destination.
In addition, they visited the cruise terminal of Tarragona Cruise Port and boarded the MSC Splendida to get to know the cruise operated by MSC from Tarragona and the services it provides. This action is part of Tarragona Cruise Port’s strategy to promote and diversify the port, aiming to boost cruise tourism and position the Costa Daurada as a leading destination for both national and international tourists.
Tarragona Cruise Port, a tourism brand integrated by the tourism boards of the Tarragona, Reus, and Vila-seca city councils, the Tarragona Provincial Tourism Board, the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce, Global Ports Holding, and the Port Authority of Tarragona, among others, has been working for over 10 years to promote the region as a unique cruise destination in the Western Mediterranean, thanks to a wide range of tourist attractions including heritage, gastronomy, leisure, beaches, and protected natural areas of high scenic value. Its promotional strategy includes participation in international fairs and the organization of fam trips.
A comprehensive program
Travel agents participating in this promotional initiative visited the new cruise terminal, managed by Global Ports Holding at Moll de Balears. The visit to this facility, inaugurated in June 2024 and awarded for its architecture, allowed them to experience its features firsthand.
Next, they boarded the MSC Splendida, where they took a tour of the ship and had lunch with representatives from the cruise line to learn more about MSC’s commitment to Tarragona.
The fam trip included visits to Tarragona, where participants explored the city’s Roman heritage and gastronomy; Vila-seca, where they discovered the Celler, the Castle, and the dining options in La Pineda area; and Reus, where they learned about the modernist legacy with visits to the Pere Mata Institute, the Gaudí Centre, and Casa Navàs, as well as the city’s vermouth tradition. Additionally, participants spent a day at PortAventura World, discovering the park and its associated hotel offering.
An internationally recognized destination
The tourist attractions showcased during this fam trip earned Tarragona a spot in the ranking of the 15 best cruise ports in the world, compiled by the British newspaper Daily Mail. Tarragona is one of only two Spanish cities included in this ranking, along with Maó. The publication highlights the region’s heritage, beaches, and wines as major attractions for cruise passengers.
