Queen Victoria makes its first call at Tarragona Cruise Port coinciding with the solar eclipse
The Queen Victoria, operated by British cruise line Cunard Line, called at Tarragona Cruise Port for the first time on Wednesday, 12 August, as part of a two-week itinerary through the Western Mediterranean designed to coincide with the solar eclipse.
The ship arrived at Tarragona Cruise Port with around 2,000 passengers, having departed from Civitavecchia (Rome), where the itinerary began. During their time ashore, passengers had the opportunity to discover Tarragona and its surroundings, before returning to the ship to continue their journey towards Palma de Mallorca.
The visit was marked by the solar eclipse, one of the most significant astronomical events of the year. Queen Victoria departed Tarragona bound for Mallorca as the phenomenon unfolded, allowing passengers to experience the eclipse on board while sailing out of the port and continuing their journey across the Mediterranean, making the call at Tarragona Cruise Port one of the highlights of this special itinerary.
To mark the Queen Victoria’s first call at Tarragona Cruise Port, the traditional exchange of plaques took place as a symbol of welcome and to commemorate this milestone.
The Queen Victoria’s visit highlights the appeal of Tarragona Cruise Port and the destination within Western Mediterranean cruise itineraries. Combining the opportunity to discover Tarragona’s rich cultural and historical heritage with a unique experience at sea, the visit offered passengers a memorable way to experience the destination as part of an exceptional Mediterranean journey.
