Tarragona Cruise Port consolidates its position as a rising Mediterranean destination at Seatrade Cruise Med
Tarragona Cruise Port has cemented its position as a rising destination in the Western Mediterranean during its participation in Seatrade Cruise Med. The premier event for the Mediterranean cruise sector, held on 16 and 17 September in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, highlighted the growing interest of cruise lines in the Costa Daurada, driven by a distinctive offering that combines heritage, scenery, gastronomy and up to five UNESCO World Heritage sites. This event has allowed Tarragona Cruise Port to reinforce its commitment to extending the cruise season and to establish itself as a boutique port for high-end cruises.
During the event, Tarragona Cruise Port held meetings with cruise lines and tour operators to advance several strategic objectives, including the development of new homeport itineraries, the extension of the cruise season and the attraction of premium and luxury cruise operators and vessels.
This approach aims to promote sustainable growth, driving the de-seasonalisation of the Costa Daurada tourism sector, attracting high-spending visitors and encouraging travellers to explore the destination before embarking or after disembarking.
The fair also provided a platform to showcase the destination’s diverse range of experiences. These go from cultural and heritage activities —such as Roman Tarragona, the Modernist architecture of Reus, the Cistercian Route and the traditional human towers (castells)— to food and wine experiences, discoveries of natural landscapes like the Ebro Delta and family leisure attractions such as PortAventura World.
Tarragona Cruise Port also highlighted the operational advantages of its facilities, including the first-class Moll de Balears and its innovative, sustainable cruise terminal. Together, these facilities provide a seamless experience for embarking and disembarking passengers, as well as for those visiting Tarragona on transit calls.
A season marked by important milestones
Seatrade Cruise Med arrives as the cruise season enters its final phase. With just two months of activity remaining, forecasts of around eighty port calls remain unchanged. Beyond the figures, 2026 has been defined by outstanding milestones, notably Viking’s commitment to establishing Tarragona Cruise Port as one of its Mediterranean homeports. Driven by this partnership, Tarragona Cruise Port hosted the maiden call of the Viking Yi Dun last August — marking the Western Mediterranean debut of the cruise line’s vessel tailored exclusively for the Chinese market. Other notable milestones achieved throughout the season include the call of Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas — one of the largest cruise ships in the world — and the consolidation of Tarragona Cruise Port as a homeport for MSC Cruises, highlighted by the weekly calls of the MSC Orchestra from May to October.
